George Kipp was born on August 25, 
1796, one of eight children of John George Kipp and Anna Barbara Blasser 
Kipp.  
George Kipp was married to Elizabeth 
Neff (1790 - 1860) on December 14, 1819.   Elizabeth was born on 
March 6, 1790, the daughter of Johan Peter Neff and Susanna Blasser.   
Susanna Blasser was a sister of Anna Barbara Blasser, the wife of John 
George Kipp.
The 1840 census records indicate that 
George and Elizabeth had three sons.  They were John (about 1820), 
George William, Jr. (1822), and Joseph (about 1824).  All three sons 
were born in Pennsylvania, most likely in York County.
ASHLAND COUNTY, OHIO
George Kipp and his family moved to 
Ashland County, Ohio in 1830.  George died on June 5, 1869 and 
Elizabeth died on January 16, 1860. They are both buried in the Pleasant 
Valley Cemetery in Ashland, Ashland County, Ohio.
REAL ESTATE
A township map of the Montgomery Township, 
Ashland County, Ohio shows George Kipp as having 30 acres.  Next 
to his property is a 19 acre parcel owned by a J. Kipp.  This was 
most likely George Kipp’s son, John Kipp.  The 1850 census lists 
George as a farmer.  The crop most likely was flax.

in the federal U S Census of 1830 for Spring Garden, York County, Pennsylvania.

1840 Census   
George appears as a head of household 
in the federal U S Census of 1840 for Montgomery Township, Richland 
County, Ohio.  Montgomery Township became a part of the newly formed 
Ashland County in 1846.  The census has the following information.

1850 Census 
The census of 1850 for Montgomery Township, 
Ashland County, Ohio lists George Kipp and Elizabeth (Mary) as age 56.  
George’s occupation is listed as farmer and the value of his real 
estate is noted as $1,000.  No other household members are listed.
1860 Census
The 1860 census for Montgomery Township, 
Ashland County, Ohio lists George Kipp as age 62 and a member of the 
household of his son John Kipp.  Elizabeth is not listed as she 
had died earlier that year before the census was taken on July 17, 1860.  
No occupation is noted for George.  The value of his real estate 
is listed as $1,200 and his personal estate at $200.   
 
 
ESTATE SETTLEMENT
In the Intestate Records of John George 
Kipp, father of George, the court in 1826 gave guardianship of a grand-daughter 
Barbara Hollinger to his son George Kipp because she had no father or 
mother.   The 1830 Census does not indicate that the girl 
was with the George Kipp family at that time.
