ASHLAND COUNTY, OHIO
John Wilbert Kipp was born on July 
4, 1850 in Montgomery Township, Ashland County, Ohio one of seven children 
of George William Kipp Jr. and Sarah Wolf Kipp.  He moved with 
his family to Olney, Richland County, Illinois in October 1852.
RICHLAND COUNTY, ILLINOIS 
John Wilbert was first married to Laura 
Fisher (1856 – 1874) on November 13, 1873 in Richland County, Illinois. 
Laura was born in Virginia the daughter of M. C. and Julie Fisher.  
Laura gave birth to an infant son on November 14, 1874.  Laura 
and the infant son died that same day.  They are buried in lot 
141 in the Haven Hill Cemetery in Olney, Richland County, Illinois.
John Wilbert then married Susanna Bauman 
(1856 – 1940) on May 5, 1878 in Olney, Richland County, Illinois.  
They had six children.  They were Manuel Henry (1879), Clarence 
George (1880), Lillie Blanche (1882), Mabel Callie (1886), Edward William 
(1894) and Earl Lloyd (1896).  Manuel, Clarence, Lillie, and Mabel 
were all born in Olney, Richland County, Illinois.  Edward and 
Earl were born in Lester, Lyon County, Iowa.  
LYON COUNTY, IOWA
John Wilbert and Susan owned a farm 
in Lyon County located about two miles north of Lester, Iowa.  
The farm had seven acres of hay land and 254 acres under cultivation.  
Improvements included a seven room house, barn, concrete hog house, 
granary and corn crib, machine shed, and cattle barn.  It had a 
god supply of water, a wind mill, and hog-tight fence all around.  
After moving to South Dakota they put the farm up for auction on August 
10, 1913.  The farm was sold at the auction but through a misunderstanding 
the sale was declared off by John Wilbert.  
MOODY COUNTY, SOUTH DAKOTA
John Wilbert and Susan lived in Flandreau, 
SD from about 1913 until about 1918 when they moved to McAllen, Texas.   
HIDALGO COUNTY, TEXAS
John Wilbert and Susan stayed in McAllen, 
TX a few years and returned to Flandreau, SD about 1921.   
MOODY COUNTY, SOUTH DAKOTA
John Wilbert and Susan lived in Flandreau, 
SD until his death on April 26, 1921.  Susan continued to live 
in Flandreau after his death.  Susan later became a resident of 
Yankton State Hospital, in Yankton, SD where she died on May 4, 1940.  
John W. and Susan are buried in Union Cemetery, Flandreau, SD. 
CENSUS
1880 Census
The 1880 Census for Olney, Richland 
County, Illinois lists John Wilbert as age 28 and Susan as age 25.  
The census also lists a son, Manuel, age 1.  William Bauman, the 
brother of Susan is listed as age 24 and included within the household. 
1890 Census
Most of the 1890 Census was destroyed.
1900 Census
The 1900 Census for Allison Township, 
Lyon County, Iowa lists John Wilbert as age 48, and Susan 45.  
Children listed are Manuel, age 21, Clarence, age 18, Mabel, age 14, 
Eddie, age 6, and Earl, age 3.
1910 Census
The 1910 Census for Allison Township, 
Lyon County, Iowa lists John Wilbert as age 59, and Susan 55.  
Children listed are Eddie, age 16, and Earl, age 13.  The household 
census also included Clara C., daughter-in-law, age 23, and grandsons 
Harvey C., age 3 and Merle G. age 10 months.  John Wilbert is listed 
as a farmer and Edward and Earl are listed as a laborer on the home 
farm. 
 
1920 Census
The 1920 Census for McAllen City, Hidalgo 
County, Texas lists John Wilbert as age 69, and Susan 64.  Their 
occupations are listed as none.
1930 Census
The 1930 Census for Flandreau, Moody 
County, South Dakota lists Susan, age 74 as a widow. The value of her 
home that she owns is stated as $2,000.
1940 Census
Census data for 1940 and on has not
